My story
Brinda Kugapala, Founder
air health and wellbeing
I'm British Sri Lankan and a mum of three. I grew up surrounded by health chat: my mum (Amma) is a GP and my dad (Appa) has type 2 diabetes. If Amma wasn't discussing Appa's treatment or medication, she was on the phone helping a patient, friend or relative with a medical query. Health might not have had a seat at the table, but it was on the agenda at most mealtimes.
I also grew up with health advice that rarely felt written for families like mine. The advice my dad has received has always been "correct", but it’s never quite accounted for his lifestyle: a Sri Lankan diet (deliciously spicy, carb-heavy and protein-light) and the habits that shape his day.
I keep seeing the gap between a diagnosis, generic advice and what works. Most of us know what we should be doing. But knowing doesn't always translate into action or change. You leave the GP surgery with a test result and good intentions. Then life happens on the way out.
I believe there must be a better way. Health is now a crowded, complex landscape, with advice, opinions and supplements aplenty. Living well for longer starts with small steps today, and a return to the basics: food, sleep, movement, community and purpose.
I left a career spanning management consulting, Amazon and the NHS to build something that meets people where they are, not where the advice assumes they should be. I trained as a Level 5 Health & Wellbeing Coach to explore the harder question: why do we struggle to change our habits, even when we know what to do? Coaching helps uncover the beliefs that underpin our habits, and that’s where real change starts.
My experience has also taught me that you can't separate mental and physical health. Yet our health system often treats them separately, and unequally. We see a specialist for our blood sugar, our heart or our gut, but rarely does anyone ask about the stress, worry or exhaustion that might be sitting underneath. air health & wellbeing is built on the belief that there shouldn't be silos. Not mind or body. Both.
Good health shouldn't be a privilege, and we shouldn't have to wait for a diagnosis to act. My mission is simple: to help people spend more of their lives living well, physically, mentally and emotionally.
If any of this resonates, I'd love to hear from you.
